Erika Scheirer—A Nurturing Heart
Among all of the wonderful people at Pearl Insurance, some are universally recognized for their compassion and understanding. Erika Scheirer, the copywriter team lead within our marketing department, is one such person.
Six Years of Sunshine
In her nearly six years since starting, Erika has stood out for her leadership, kindness, and team-first mentality. She’s clearly passionate about her work—but what drives that passion?
A big part of it is her coworkers. Erika explains:
“The best part of my job is by far the people. It’s one thing to come into the office every day, keep your head down, and feel sort of disconnected from the work and people. That’s not at all the case in our department. There’s a real sense of camaraderie… laughter is almost always bursting from our area.”
But that’s not all that keeps her engaged. She’s also driven by the deep sense of caring and shared vision amongst her team.
“In an environment like this, you feel like your coworkers deeply care about who you are as a person. In my opinion, that’s how you get the best out of people. It makes you excited to wake up every day and feel like you’re coming to work to serve a larger purpose.
I also love the fact that we are legitimately helping people during their most trying times in life. That really makes you feel good about the work you do every day.”
Kids, Coffee, and Cameras
In addition to heading Pearl’s copy team, Erika has also recently developed a new leadership role: becoming a mom!
Her life has gotten a lot busier since then, but she still gives it her all at work. When asked what keeps her going throughout the day, she replied “I mostly feed off the energy of my co-workers and, of course, COFFEE! I have a toddler at home and a baby on the way (arriving this month!), so coffee is my lifeline to feeling like a normal human being.”
It’s a good thing coffee works for her, because in addition to everything else, she’s also been co-owner of a family photo business for close to 10 years. Her business is called Now and Then Photography, and it’s a big source of fulfillment for her.
“I love telling stories, capturing really special moments, and meeting new people, so photography is the perfect creative outlet for me.”
Words to Live By
There’s so much more to Erika than we can cover in this article; her love of ice cream, the curiosity she has for other countries and cultures, her cockapoo named Oscar… the list could go on and on!
But the best way to capture what Erika stands for is through the philosophy she lives by.
“Treat everyone with kindness because you never know the battles someone is overcoming. A simple smile or kind word could change someone’s day for the better. Smiles are contagious and make the world a better place!”
We couldn’t agree more, Erika!
