Jake Pearl inherited more from his grandfather than the family name and legacy. He exhibits the same drive his grandfather, Jack Pearl, exercised over 65 years ago when he began building Pearl Insurance into what it is today.
That unwavering commitment means Jake is always up for a good challenge. In fact, that’s one of his favorite parts of his job as Branch Manager of our Kansas City, KS, office.
“I love overcoming the ever-changing challenges we face as an organization. These challenges come in all shapes and sizes. Some big and some small. Some more frustrating than others. It is an extremely gratifying feeling to identify an issue, put a plan in place with your team, and work together to overcome whatever hurdle lies in our way. The fact that I have an awesome team around me makes the most challenging part of my job also one of my favorite parts of the job.”
The Family Business
Jake grew up in the family business, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that he’s always seen himself continuing the family legacy.
“As long as I could remember, I always saw myself working for the family business. Near the end of college, I decided I wanted to work in the insurance industry, but not at Pearl. After spending 4 years working in Omaha, NE, after I had graduated, I was ready for a change of scenery. At that time our Kansas City office was hiring, and it just made sense to join the family business at that time.”
Reflecting on the Past
For Jake, Jack Pearl was more than the founder of Pearl Insurance. He was his grandfather, a caring man whom he looked up to throughout his entire childhood. His drive and commitment to doing things the right way is something that’s stuck with Jake to this day.
“Jack could also tell a great story. I used to love spending time with him as a kid listening to him tell stories. From the unique approach he used when going door to door early in his career, to the steps he took to lock down his first significant account with the Illinois State Bar Association. The stories go on and on, but most have the same underlying theme. Jack Pearl was an extremely driven person that had a very hard time taking no for an answer. He cared for his employees and was adamant about doing things the right way.”
It’s Not All Work and No Play
Living in Kansas City opens the door to an endless supply of activities—from sporting events to trying out new food joints—Jake enjoys living in the city he now calls home.
“I like that it’s a little big city. You can always find something fun to do from concerts, to sporting events, to hanging out at one of the many establishments around town. There are a ton of good eats in Kansas City as well. It’s always fun to get out and try new spots.”
In his spare time, you can find Jake on the golf course, enjoying some live music, or spending time with his six-year-old lab, Walter.
A Motto to Live By
For Jake, at the end of the day, it comes down to respecting others and never letting them down.
His motto is: Treat others with respect and deliver on your word. Execution is key to success.
