Goett Inspired!

Psst… got a minute? There’s someone I’d like you to meet… but she’s got so many facets that I’ll start with a riddle of sorts.

What’s a smile, laughter, and spontaneous song have in common? What about health and travel? How about a cartophile who loves cats?

As senior copywriter in Pearl’s marketing department in Peoria Heights, Jill knows the technical side of writing. But she’s also got a flair for the creative. And she’s driven to achieve her best.

So, whether Jill’s writing for clients, exercising in the gym, competing in a game, or learning to play piano, she’s giving her all.

And she continues to smile and laugh while doing it. Even bursting into song at times.

So, what’s Jill love about her job? “My coworkers! I can be myself around them. They make me laugh and challenge me to be a better person and copywriter. Each has different strengths, and it’s fun to learn from them.”

And Jill loves to learn, so copywriting is perfect for her inquisitive mind. “Copywriting is cool—it combines both sides of your brain, the perfect balance of art and science. It’s not just about writing creatively, it’s also about your audience’s reaction, which can be measured with analytics.”

Jill’s also committed to her health. That’s why she serves on the Wellness Committee and prioritizes a lunchtime workout at the Pearl Fitness Center. “It gets me through the day. If I don’t have my workout, my day drags.” Her idea of a nice day is a trip to a farmers’ market and a yoga class.

Other rituals get her through the workday, too. “I love having tea when I get to the office. And our creative huddles are a good start to my day. That’s when I check in with my peers and get a creative boost.”

It’s an understatement to say Jill loves traveling. She’s visited five continents, 15 countries, and 30 states.  Yes, you read that right!

Her love for travel started at 11, when she went on a weeklong trip with her mom and brother to Utah. Though camping and kayaking terrified her at first, she grew to love it. And, later, she studied abroad. That’s when her eyes were opened to other cultures. Maybe her love for maps started there, too.

And Jill loves music. “I enjoy singing at home and taking voice lessons. A community choir could be in my future. I also want to learn to play piano… then play and sing, not necessarily for anyone else.” For Jill, who learned to read music, it’s all about seeing how she can improve.

Jill lives in Metamora with her husband, Nick, and two cats: Ellie and Bill. “I never liked cats until I met Nick, but now I love them. Ellie loves Nick but is terrified of everyone else. And Bill is our newest cat. He wakes me up every morning at 5:30 by stepping on my face.” She smiles.

Yes, Jill’s got a great sense of humor, too. “Real life can be so funny; laughing at yourself is important. And Nick makes me laugh more than anyone.” Not surprising since you might find him performing standup at Jukebox Comedy Club on the weekends.

Jill admires Nick’s dedication to weightlifting… about five times a week since he was a kid. “We share a love for wellness and laughter.”

Lots of laughter. “For the first look on our wedding day, I dressed up in one of those giant inflatable t-rex costumes… I tapped Nick on the shoulder, and he turned around and burst out laughing. He then took off the dinosaur costume to reveal ME in my dress.”

You’d never know it now, but Jill was once afraid to try new things. “My mom, a psychotherapist, got me a framed quote that inspired me. I even went skydiving with her on her 50th birthday.”

The quote? “Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles. It empties today of its strength.”
